ABA METHOD - METHODS FOR AUTISTIC CHILDREN

Author: Dr. Ivar Lovaas

ABA method is a treatment method widely used in schools and is applied regularly by therapists throughout the United States since 1980. ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) is a Method of micro-application analysis, focuses on behaviors. The basis of this approach is the consolidation and conditional behavior of Dr. Skinner and Pavlov (1950). ABA approaches audiences through behaviors, through feedback behaviors, therapists can analyze and design positive alternative activities.

Content of the ABA method:

The therapist will set tasks for children to participate. Each task needs the child to have specific actions and feedback from the therapist. Tasks are broken down into multiple operations. If complete a good task - the behavior needs promotion - the child will be rewarded. Improper behavior will be ignored or penalized. The goal is to reinforce behaviors that are appropriate and eliminate the improper behaviors of children, and to educate behaviors for children. The therapist continuously monitors, observes, and records the behavior of the child to have an appropriate adjustment and education strategy.

ABA method is applied in therapy for autistic children, teaching skills, teaching social interaction, etc.
